YU Da-fu and German Literature

In his enthusiastic study of foreign literatures, YU Da-fu absorbed a great deal from German literature. The German-style education he accepted when he was studying in Japan exposed him to a lot of German literary works. His keen interest in German literature was thus cultivated. YU Da-fu had a high regard for German literature and he was especially fond of such German ideologists and writers as Nietzsche, Stirner and Storm. Not only did he introduce and recommend them to Chinese readers, but also his own thoughts and creations were deeply influenced by them.
