Abstract
Objectives This study evaluated the differences in serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) level and its change in the hemodialysis course between diabetic and non-diabetic hemodialysis patients. Methods A total of 89 maintenance hemodialysis patients were surveyed in this study.Serum iPTH level was measured.Patients were divided into diabetic nephropathy (DN,n=20),non-diabetic nephropathy with diabetes group (n=6),and non-diabetic group (n=63).Patients in a group were subdivided into short dialysis age group (dialysis age 5 years) and long dialysis age group (dialysis age =5 years).iPTH level and clinical data were compared among the groups. Results Serum iPTH was significantly lower in DN group than in non-diabetic nephropathy with diabetes group and non-diabetic group (P0.05 and P0.01,respectively).iPTH level was significantly higher in non-diabetic patients with long dialysis age than other groups (P0.05).Conclusions Serum iPTH level was lower in DN group than in non-diabetic nephropathy group.iPTH level increased in patients with longer dialysis age, especially in those with non-diabetic nephropathy.
