Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between the grade of glioma and the expression of VEGF, PCNA and MVD,and to analyse the correlation of between the expression of VEGF to MVD and the expression of PCNA. Methods Immunohistochemical techniques were used to detect the expression of VEGF, PCNA and MVD in 43 cases of human glioma of different grade and 5 cases of normal brain tissues. Results The expression of VEGF and PCNA increased with the grade of glioma, but there was no significant difference of VEGF and PCNA between grade Ⅰ and grade Ⅱ,and significant difference was found among the other grades. MVD increased with the grade of glioma, significant difference was found among all grades. The expression of VEGF was positively correlated to MVD and to the expression of PCNA. Conclusions Detection of VEGF,PCNA expression and MVD can be used as indexes for judgement about pathological grade in brain glioma; VEGF may promote angiogenesis of brain glioma, and increase MVD of brain glioma; VEGF expression may reflect the proliferating activity of the tumor cell in brain glioma.
