From Official as a Teacher to Heaven as a Religion——New Exploration of Dong Zhong-shu's "Heaven and Man in One"

As a statesman full of originality,Dong Zhong-shu comes up with a new doctrine of heaven and man.In the one hand,he adjusts the thought of heaven and man in one in the pre-Qin days,and in the other,he integrates the thoughts of the Confucian and Mo Schools.Dong's first view is that heave is above man and puts forward the political structure of heaven,king and subjects by integrating the thoughts of Mencius and Mozi.His second view is that governmental affairs are commented on by heaven and advocates virtue instead of penalty by integrating the thoughts of the Confucian and Legist Schools.His third view is that there is a response between heaven and man,which restricts the powers of kings.
