Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between serum fasting true insulin (TI) and lipids in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods TI, fasting serum immunoreactive insulin (IRI) and blood lipids were determined with BA-ELISA, radioimmunoassay method and enzyme method, respectively, in the normal glucose tolerance group (50 cases), T2DM group (87 cases) and T2DM complicated with essential hypertension (T2DM+EH) group (76 cases). Results In T2DM and T2DM+EH groups, TI has statistically significant positive correlation with TG( P 0.01)and significant negative correlation with HDL-C ( P 0.05), while IRI has no relation with TG and HDL-C( P 0.05).Conclusions Serum fasting TI is associated with dyslipidemia in T2DM, and the the increase of TI can elevate TG and decrease HDL-C.
