Abstract

Tao Shu and Wei Yuan are outstanding and influential figures in Chinese Modern history. The former is an excellent imperial inspector in Dao Guang, Qing Dynasty. The latter a great thinker in the same period of time. Both of them grew up by the river of Zijiang, which lies in Hunan Province. They have built up a deep friendship and been colleagues for years. Wei Yuan's advice and support has greatly contributed to Tao Shu's success in his pursuits. Meanwhile, Tao Shu has guided and cultivated Wei Yuan.
