The Evolution of the Romance

Abstract
In histoiy of development of Chinese novels, we always use the romance in Tang to represent short novels in Tang Dynasty. In fact, this kind of novels flourished in Tang Dynasty while its naming appeared in SouthSong Dynasty. This article aims at evolution of romance; biography of historical figures in Tang Dynasty-thelove novels in Song Dynasty - naming process and evolution of romance in late period of South SongDynasty. During these three periods romance gradually assumed a fixed literary form and possessed some obvious features in subject matters. From then on, romance became an important type of classical novels.
