Abstract
Aim:To detect the expression of nucleostemin (NS) protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tissue.Methods:Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of NS in 62 cases of ESCC,31 cases of adjacent atypical hyperplasia epithelium,and 62 cases of normal esophageal epithelium.The relationship between the expression of NS protein and the clinical parameters was analyzed.Results: The expression rates of NS protein in ESCC,adjacent atypical hyperplasia epithelium and normal esophageal epithelium tissue were 69.4%,41.9%,and 17.7%,respectively,and there was a significant difference among the 3 groups(χ2=33.676,P0.01).In ESCC tissue,the expression of NS protein was closely associated with the histological grade, infiltration depth and lymphatic metastasis(P0.05),but not with age or gender (P0.05).Conclusion: NS may play an important role in the development of ESCC. To detect NS protein can be one of early diagnostic indexes of ESCC.
