Desertification Disasters and Its Control Countermeasures in the Oasis of the Lower Reaches of Tarim River

By 2002,desertification land area was 90% more than that of the total area,of which the area of severe desertification land was 756.02 km2,which takes 52.71% of land area in the lower reaches of Tarim River.With the aggravating of the desertification,the local communication and transportation and the daily life of the residents are threatened seriously,and large areas of farmland are forced to abandon. On December 2007,the authors went to the lower reaches of the Tarim River for field investigation.This paper discusses the current situation of desertification disaster and disaster reduction countermeasures of the Lower reaches of Tarim River on the basis of previous studies and field survey.
