Abstract

Hypervelocity Impact tests have been conducted to study the effect of temperature on the performance of the Whipple shields at hypervelocity impact range of HAI,CARDC.Impact velocity varies from 4.0km/s to 6.0km/s,and the temperature of the Whipple shields are set to -110℃,20℃ and 150℃.The test results suggest that the ballistic limits are mildly affected by the variation of temperature, and those ballistic limits derived from the tests are slightly greater than those predicted by Christiansen equations.
