Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR),vascular endothelil growth factor(VEGF)and phoshatase and tension homology deleted on chromosome fen(PTEN)in colorectal carcinoma and their significances to clinicopathological character. Methods Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expression of EGFR,VEGF and PTEN in 98 cases of colorectal carcinoma and 20 cases of normal colorectal mucosa, the clinicopathological characteristics of colorectal carcinoma were analyzed. Results The positive expression rates of EGFR,VEGF and PTEN were 61.2%(60/98),66.3%(65/98) and 48.0%(47/98)respectively in 98 colorectal carcinoma. The positive expression rates of EGFR and VEGF in colorectal carcinoma were higher than that in mormal colorectal mucosa(χ2=21.05,χ2=15.90,P0.05),but the positive expression rate of PTEN was lower than that in normal colorectal mucosa(χ2=14.72,P0.05).The expression of EGFR,VEGF and PTEN were correlated with Dukes staging, serosa infiltration, lymph node metastasis of colorectal carcinoma(P0.05).The expression of EGFR was positively correlated with that of VEGF(χ2=8.36,P0.05).The expression of EGFR and VEGF was negatively correlated with that of PTEN in colorectal carcinoma(χ2=19.73,χ2=22.85,P0.05).Conclusion A close relationships exists between the xpression of EGFR,VEGF and PTEN with infiltration as well as metastasis in colorectal carcinoma. These protiens may be used as prognostic indicators of colorectal carcinoma.
