Mammal Survey of Tianchi Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province

Field surveys were conducted for 3 times in Tianchi Nature Reserve (Yunnan province) during 2009~2011. A total of 313 small mammals were captured in 3006 trap-days and 502 bucket-days, using Sherman live traps, snap traps and pitfall. The results combined with the documented literatures, suggested that there are 89 species of mammals belonging to 9 orders, 27 families and 65 genera recognized in Tianchi Nature Reserve, and 21.3% (19 out of 89) of them had been listed in Chinese National Key Protected Wild Animals, additionally, 14.6% (13 out of 89) of these species are endemic to China. Mammal fauna analysis showed that 72 species belong to Oriental realm, and 21 species to the region of Southwest China. Some management and conservation measures were proposed to protect the abundant mammalian resources in Tianchi National Nature Reserve.
