Abstract
Objective To explore the risk factors of hypertension and metabolic syndrome(MS) in adolescents. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 3953 adolescents ages 12—18 years with 1698 subjects classified as preadolescents(age 12—15 years),2255 as adolescence.Height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure and fasting plasma glucose(FPG),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were determined. Results 1) The prevalence rates of hypertension was 6.2%.2) The blood pressure in adolescents with overweights and obesity was higher than that of the normal BMI subjects.3) Prevalence rate of abnormal DBP in the adolescents was higher than that in preadolescents(P0.05),and females had higher SBP than the males.4) Compared with the normal BP subjects, adolescent hypertension patients had significantly higher levels of weight,BMI,waist circumference,SBP,DBP,FPG,TG and LDL-C and with lower of HDL-C(P0.05),while FPG and family history of diabetes seems not relate with the occurrence of hypertension.5) Logistic regression showed gender(OR:2.10,95%CI 1.47—2.98),BMI(OR: 1.24,95%CI 1.20-1.28,P0.01) and family history(OR:1.64,95%CI 1.17-2.30,P0.01) were as risk factors for SBP,and age(OR:l.22,95%CI 1.08-1.38,P0.01),BMI(OR:1.19,95%CI 1.15-1.23,P0.01) were the risk factors for DBP.Conclusion Hypertension closely related with MS in adolescents.Family history, overweight, obesities were the main predisposed factors associated with adolescents hypertension.
