Treatment of nerve root block for 89 cases of postherpetic neuralgia

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of nerve root block for postherpetic neuralgia(PHN).Methods Eighty nine PHN patients were treated by nerve root block,which injected with the mixture of betamethason,lidocaine hydrochloride,vitamin B1 and B12Before and during the treatment,pain status of the patients was observed by visual analogue scale(VAS),then the therapeutic effect analyzed.Result Four to eight weeks after nerve root block therapy,curative ratio of the patients with PHN was 6853%(61/89 cases) and the total effective ratio was 7416%(66/89 cases)In statistics,patients with average duration of pain in 56 months got better therapeutic effect than 134 months(P 005),as well patients with average VAS of 67 got better therapeutic effect than 79(P 005).Conclusion By treatment of nerve root block,patients' pain relieved and sleep quality was improved.The treatment confirmed to be efficacy,safety,and easy to operate,should be applied to PNH patients without contraindications.
