Abstract

Objective To investigate serum cystatin C and creatinine changes and correlation in patients with kidney injury caused by hypertension. Methods Eighty patients with primary renal hypertension and normal kidney function( control group) and 80 patients with impaired renal function( observation group) were chosen and their serum cystatin C and creatinine levels were detected. Results The serum cystatin C and creatinine levels of the normal renal function group were lower than that of the renal dysfunction group( P 0. 01). The serum cystatin C and creatinine levels of the renal function reserve decline group were significantly lower than the renal dysfunction group( P 0. 01). Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between cystatin C and creatinine levels in the observation group( P 0. 05). Conclusion The serum cystatin C and creatinine levels of the patients with kidney injury caused by essential hypertension increase with severity of kidney function and the two indexes have a positive correlation, which can serve as sensitive indicators to judge the kidney injury in patients with primary hypertension and its severity.
