Abstract

Objective To evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of self-made chlorhexidine gelatin using an in vitro model infected by Enterococcus faecalis. Methods In the center for disease control of microorganism laboratory, the paper diffusion method was used to examine the susceptibility of Enterococcus faecalis,2% chlorhexidine and chlorhexidine gelatin in various times. Results The 2% chlorhexidine and chlorhexidine gelatin were more effective than Vitapex(P 0.01). There were no significant differences between 2% chlorhexidine and chlorhexidine gelatin at different times(P 0.05). Conclusion Chlorhexidine gelatin is the ideal drug for root canal dressing.
