Abstract

Purpose To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of five broad spectrum beta lactams in common use. Methods Employing E test method to determine the minimum inhibiting concentration(MIC)of antibiotics against 100 strains bacteria. Results The rank order of susceptibility of the five antimicrobial agents was imipenem(94%),cefoperazone/sulbactam (76%),ceftazidime (68%),ceftriaxone (65%),piperacillin (38%). Conclusions Imipenem is the most active antimicrobial agent that almost against all bacteria;the antimicrobial activity of ceftazidime against aram negative rods is more active than that against gram positive cocci,especially,predominantly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
