Abstract
Objective To observe the influence of Tongluoyizhi Formula (TLYZ) for activation of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and nitric oxide (NO) in brain in order to explore the mechanism of TLYZ treating vascular dementia. Methods Injecting embolism to external carotid artery and giving Anisodaminte by hypodermic to make models of rat vascular dementia, then detect the model by anamnesis experiment and measured the activity of SOD and the contents of NO in pallium the thalamic, hippocampus and striatum of rats and the contents of NO in serum. Results To compared with control group, the ability of learning and memory was significantly enhanced in treating group, the activity of SOD and contents of NO increased significantly(P 0.01 or P 0.05), but the contents of NO in serum has no significant change. The influence of TLYZ for activation of SOD and NO in pallium was significantly different from the Aniracetam. TLYZ was similar to Aniracetam on influence for activation of SOD and NO on other three parts of cerebrum (P 0.05). Conclusion TLYZ has the function of increasing the activation of SOD and the contents of NO. It has also ameliorated the function of brain.
