Abstract

Objective:To investigate the role of the eytological examination of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the treatments and diagnosis of menigeal carcinomarosis. Methods: The clinical data and the results of eytological examination of CSF in 13 cases confirmed as meningeal carcinomalosis were controlled analysed. Results: Among the 13 patients, CSF leukocytes counts were increased in 10 cases. cancer cells in 9 patients were found at the first time of examination and in other and in 4 patients at the seconds -fifth time. 5 cases were confirmed as lung cancer,3 cases as lymphoma,2 cases as gastric carcinoma and one as breast cancer. Conclusions:Finding cancer cells in the eytological examination of cerxbrospinal fluid is the most important evidence for the diagnosis of menigeal carci-nomatosis.
