Abstract
乞in Puxian dialect of Fujian not only has give, causative and passive meanings in Min Dialect but also is used in a frequently-used construction of ke?1乞1'……ke?2乞2,where ke?1and ke?2have the same pronunciation and corresponds to the bei 被…… gei 给construction in Beijing dialect. Both ke?2乞and gei给have the function of emphasis, but the former is less restricted in terms of semantics and syntactic constraints. ke?2乞 has been generalized into an emphatic marker, the above construction of which is strongly influenced by Beijing dialect, yet has something to do with the dialectal evolution of its own.
