Abstract

Objective To understand the distribution of causes of death in Gaomi City, and to reveal the main causes of death affecting the health of residents in the city in order to provide the basis for the formulation of health measures. Methods Retrospective study was used to analyze the whole causes of death of residents in Gaomi from 2004 to 2005. Results The mortality of residents in Gaomi from2004 to 2005 was 726.93/105,while male mortality(807.87/105) was higher than that of female(645.78/105).The different was significant.Four top death causes were circulatory system diseases, malignant tumors, respiratory diseases, injuries and poisoning, counting for 91.85% of whole death. The average potential years of life lost (APYLL) of total causes of death for residents aged from 1 year to 69 years old were 6.56 years. The rate of potential years of life lost was 47.69‰.The top cause of life lose for residents were injuries and poisoning. Conclusions Circulatory system diseases, malignant tumors, respiratory diseases, injuries and poisoning had been the major factor endangering the health of residents. The distribution of mortality for each cause was different in gender and age. The influence of potential life lost was different for each death cause.
