Augmentation of Aripiprazole in the treatment of depression

Abstract

Objective:To explore the efficacy and safety of Aripiprazole in the treatment of depression.Methods:Sixty patients were randomly devided into the study group(n=30) treated with escitalopram combined with Aripiprozole and the control group(n=30) treated with Escitalopram for 8 weeks.Hamilton Depression scale(HAMD) and Treatment Emergent Sympton scale(TESS) were used to evaluate the efficacy and side-effect respectively before and after treatment for 2,4 and 8 weeks.Results:The scores of HAMD were decreased significantly in study group at the end of 2 weeks while in control group at the end of 4 weeks.The score of HAMD in both groups were lower significantly than that before treatment(P0.01) and no significant difference of side-effect in both groups(P0.05).Conclusion:Escitalopram combined with Aripiprazole in the treatment of depression has better efficacy,takes effect quickly and with light side-effect.
