Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of pravastatin and atorvastatin on serum C-reactive protein and IL-6 in patients with unstable angina. Methods One hundred and thirty-six patients were randomly assigned into three groups: placebo therapy group, pravastatin group, and atorvastatin group. All patients received conventional drug and supportive therapy,in addition, the atorvastatin group received additional atorvastatin(10mg/d) for 8 w and the pravastatin group received additional pravastatin(20mg/d) for 8 w.Then all the patients' serum C-reactive protein,interleukin-6 and blood lipids were measured just before and after therapy. Results Serum C-reactive protein,interleukin-6,and lipid levels were significantly reduced in pravastatin and atorvastatin groups as compared with those of the placebo group(P0.05),and the blood lipid level reduction in atorvastation group was significantly more than that of the pravastatin group(P0.05).The reduction of serum C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 levels showed no correlation with the reduced lipid levels both in pravastatin group and atorvastatin group before and after treatment(P0.05). Conclusion Pravastatin and atorvastatin potentiates the decline of serum C-reactive protein,interleukin-6,and lipid levels in patients with unstable angina, their effects do not depend on the reduction of lipid level.
