Abstract

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of 16-slice spiral CT for the detection of intestinal obstruction. Methods Thirty-six cases of intestinal obstruction were analyzed using 16-slice spiral CT,and the CT results were compared with surgical pathology. Results CT demonstrated the exact location of obstruction in 33 cases(91.7%) and showed the correct cause of obstruction in 29 cases(80.6%).Analysis of all intestinal obstructions demonstrated adhesions in 13 cases, hernias in 2,bowel torsion in 2,fecal obstruction in 1,gallstone obstruction in 2,mesenteric vessel thrombosis in 2,intestinal inflammation in 1,intussusception in 2,and intestinal cancer in 11.Conclusion Sixteen-slice spiral CT has high diagnostic value for the detection of acute intestinal obstruction.
