Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effectiveness oftransvenous embolization for the treatment of dural arteriovenous fistula(DAVF).Methods A total of 32 patients with DAVFs were treated with transvenous embolization,22 involving the cavernous sinus and 10,transverse-sigmoid sinus. After embolization, angiography was applied during the clinical follow-up study to evaluate the clinical efficacies. Results Immediate postoperative angiography indicated that the fistulas were totally occluded in 19 cases and blood flow velocity in fistulas evidently slowed down in 13 cases.Ocular proptosis and chemosis transiently deteriorated in 9 patients. The 3-24 months follow-up study found that clinical symptoms of 21 cases disappeared and evidently alleviated in 11 cases. Conclusion Transvenous emblolization is effective in treating the patients with DAVFs.
