Transvenous embolization in the treatment of complex dural arteriovenous fistulas

Abstract

Objective To evaluate efficacy and safety of transvenous embolization in the treatment of complex dural arteriovenous fistulas(DAVF).Methods Six cases of complex dural arteriovenous fistulas treated in this department were analyzed retrospectively.The DAVE was located at transverse-sigmoid sinus in 2 cases,at cavernous sinus in 3 cases and at Galen vein in 1 case.Four patients were treated with transvenous embolization alone,2 with a combination of arterial embolization.Results Anatomic cure was achieved in 5 patients.Clinical cure was obtained in 6 cases.Conclusion Transvenous embolization in the treatment of complex dural arteriovenous fistulas is an effective means.
