On Xu Wei and His Plays

Abstract
The paper is on the multiple studies of Xu Wei (1521 ─ 1593). The author explores reasons to form his unordinary thoughts and psychology by the research of his family home, marriage, origin of study and lifetime of frustration. From these, we can know his ideas guiding his artistic and literary creation. In addition, the author makes a thorough study of Xu Wei's variety drama Si Sheng Yuan and points out its ideological content, artistic achivement, position and influence in the history of the traditional Chinese drama.
