Transsphenoidal approach for removal of pituitary adenoma(report of 126 cases)

Objective:To review the experience of transsphenoidal approach for removal of pituitary adenoma.Methods:Total of 126 patients with pituitary adenoma were treated with transsphenoidal surgery.Results:Total removal was achieved in 89 cases,subtotal in 31 cases.All patients revealed improvement visual acuity and pituitary function.After the operations,18 patients develope diabetes insipidus,CSF leakage in 13 cases,3 cases with hemorrhage,all were cured.Conclusion: Transsphenoidal approach is a safe,convenient and minimal-invasive approach in the treatment of pituitary adenomas.This approach is the first choice in most cases with pituitary adenoma.
