Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate procalcitonin( PCT), C-reactive protein( CRP) levels and prognosis in patients with sepsis. METHODS Selected 75 septic patients treated in ICU department of Wuyi TCM Hospital in Jiangmen between March 2009 to September 2012, including 25 cases of sepsis, 25 cases of severe sepsis, 25 cases of sepsis shock. At the same period, included non-sepsis patients served as controls. Monitored PCT, CRP levels of sepsis patients before treatment,three days after treatment and recorded clinical baseline before and after treatment in patients. Observation data of sepsis and non-sepsis were dealt with statistical methods to analyze calcitonin, C-reactive protein level and prognosis in patients with sepsis. RESULTS The average PCT of patients with sepsis at 0 day was(5.3 ± 6.8) ng / ml,(3.6 ± 2.8) ng / ml at 72 h,average CRP at 0 day was(65.6 ± 38.7) mg / L,(50.7 ± 27.2) mg / L at 72 h, PCT, CRP levels in patients with sepsis were significantly different(P﹤0.01); and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the PCT, CRP were risk factors for sepsis. CONCLUSION The levels of PCT, CRP in patients with sepsis are higher than non-sepsis patients. The levels of PCT and CRP play an important role in the diagnosis of sepsis and are closely related with the prognosis.
