Metaphor Theories and Metaphor Understanding

Abstract
Metaphor understanding is an important part of discourse understanding. Traditionaltheories of metaphor ( the comparison theory , the interaction theory , the pragmatic theory) failedto touch the essence of metaphor understanding. The cognitive theory of metaphor, based on hu-man cognition, investigates the production, operation and understanding of metaphor and success-fully reveals how metaphor is understood in discourse.
