Abstract

The major differences between the unhuman references of Chinese它?它们and English it?they are embodied in the following:1) in Chinese,它,instead of 它们,is used to refer to the wholeness of the referent,while in English they as well as it can be used;2) in Chinese,它 can refer to an unhuman thing of more than one individualities,emphasizing the wholeness,and 它们 can also refer to an unhuman thing of more than one individualities,emphasizing the quantities,while in English they is used in general.
