Drawback of contemporary education in China:from Qian Xuesen's Question

Abstract

Why have our institutes of higher education been failed to cultivate first-class talent?The question quoted from Qian Xuesen has caused extensive concern on higher education in China.In this article,brief discussions are presented on Qian Xuesen's question with analysis of China's current situation of higher education.The author demonstrates that measures including restructuring higher education system,initiating innovative curriculum,inculcating and developing creative thinking are straightforward but rather superficial solution to the question.On the other hand,fostering sound social values and systems would be an effective approach with profound impact.Above all,in terms of the nature of the education as well as the law of mental development,the fundamental solution to Qian Xuesen's question is to inspire individual minds in an atmosphere of academic freedom.
