Abstract

The Spring and Autumn Annals and Zuo Zhuan was considered to be a work of Confucian classics first of all,and at the same time,a historiographic, literary and military work as well. Some scholars in the Tang Dynasty viewed The Spring and Autumn Annals and Zuo Zhuan as a historiographic work, and therefore, they tried to observe historical events, interpret the meanings of classics with classical principle so as to revise the thought and behavior of the then people. The significance of Zuo Zhuan lies in its narration and diction.Han Yu gave such a verdict on Zuo Zhuan as Pompous, which precisely pointed out its literary features.A batch of new readers observe Zuo Zhuan in combination with military science, and thereupon,Zuo Zhuan has been armed with a military significance. The practice of Du Mu's annotating Master Sun's Art of War and the idea of Tang scholars' combining polite letters and martial arts constituted the contributions made by the Tang scholars.
