Abstract
The Confucianism during the Pre-Qin period emphasized the viewpoint of courtesy distinguishes the Hua and Yi peoples.This actually distinguishes the Self from the Other according to a cultural standard.People who practice the Hua People's courtesy are considered Hua Xia People.Those who adopted the manners of the Yi People are regarded as Yi People.The Confucianist insisted that there was no minimum demarcation in man's nature and beasts,that man is man depends on the Sages' instructions,and courtesy distinguishes man from beasts.They extremely emphasized the external forms of courtesy.It was the basic standard to distinguish the Hua People from the Yi People.The Confucianists advocated that there was no racial differences but culture differences among peoples.It was the Hua People's courtesy that can change the Yi People but not the contrary.
