Abstract
Diethyl glutarate was synthesized from glutaric acid and ethanol with sodium bisulfate as catalyst. The effects of factors on esterification ratio were studied. The best reaction conditions are as follows: based on 0.1 mol glutaric acid, the molar ratio of ethanol to succinic acid is 6.0, mass of catalyst is 2.0 g, the taking water reagent is 25 mL, and the reaction time is 1.5 h. The yield of esterification is 79.1%. The experimental results show that sodium bisulfate is an excellent catalyst for synthesis of diethyl glutarate.
