Abstract
Objective To explore the influence of adenoid removal on curative effect of secretory otitis media in children. Methods 100 patients with secretory otitis media were retrospectively analyzed.Myringotomy with tube insertion were done for secretory otitis media.Ade-noid removal was done in 74 patients,it was not done in 26.All the patients were followed up for three months. Results ① Adenoid removal was done in 74 patients(148 ears with secretory otitis media).During three months after surgery, there were tube exodus and recurrence of se-cretory otitis in 27 ears(18.24%).② Of 26 patients(26 ears with secretory otitis) without adenoid removal, there were tube exodus and recur-rence of secretory otitis in 17 ears(65.38%).③ Of 17 recurrence patients above,8 accepted the second operation including adenoid removal, and had no recurrence during three month after second surgery. Conclusion Despite of the grades of adenoid hypertrophy, adenoid removal is necessary for the recurrence reduction and the therapeutic improvement of secretory otitis in children.
