Application of Metaphor Theory in Advanced English Discourse Teaching

Abstract

Modern metaphor research shows that metaphor is not only a rhetorical device,but the basis of human cognition,thoughts,speech and behavior.Its textual function is helpful to interpret the discourse patterns.From the perspective of phonetic metaphor and conceptual metaphor,the significance of metaphor theory to advanced English teaching were illustrated by citing examples from the corresponding teaching contents,in the hope of stimulating some new ideas.
