Correlative analysis of personality characteristics and psychological health status in medical students

OBJECTIVE To study the relationship between psychological health status and personality characteristics in medical students.METHODS The health test was performed in 1 073 medical students,and the information on psychological health status and stressful life events were collected by Eysenck Personality Question(EPQ) and Symptom Check List-90(SCL-90),in which EPQ including 4 of divided rating scales with extrovision(E),neuroticism(N),psychoticism(P) and lie(L).RESULTS The score in the P,E was significantly higher and in the L was lower than that in the norm in male students,and in the P,N and L was significantly lower and in the E was higher than that in the norm in female students(P0.01).There were significant correlation between total score of SCL-90 and EPQ with certain ethnic differences.CONCLUSION The medical students are inclined to be extroversive,and the personality is correlated with the status of their mental health.
