Abstract
Objective: To investigate the curative effects and methods of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in the treatment of severe acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema.Methods: Forty-five patients with severe acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema were treated with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation for 1-5 hours.The changes of clinical symptoms and related parameters,such as blood pressure,heart rate,respiration rate and arterial blood gas before and after treatment were measured.Results: After treatment with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation,the clinical symptoms of all patients were significantly improved.Also,the clinical parameters,including blood pressure,heart rate,respiration rate and blood gas(pH,PaO2,PaCO2,SaO2,etc) showed significant differences compared with those before treatment(P0.01).Conclusion: Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation could improve symptoms and hypoxemia in patients with severe acute pulmonary edema and shorten the course of heart failure.It is a safe and effective method for treating severe acute pulmonary edema.
