Abstract

Gemini surfactant systems are investigated by the surface tension measurement. The results reveal that the gemini surfactants have much higher surface activity than general surfactants. The surface activity of gemini surfactants strongly depends on the structure of their spacer groups. The surface activity is greatly enhanced when the cationic gemini surfactant is mixed with the general anionic surfactant compared with the general anionic/cationic surfactant system.High synergism is found when combining the gemini surfactant with the general surfactant. The special property of the gemini surfactant is due to the special molecular structure.
