The Influence of Wasteland Reclamation in Yunnan during the Qing Dynasty

Started with the rebellions led by minorities chieftains and native official of Xundian and Wuding in A.D.1527(the 6th year of Jiajing's reign),and ended with the suppression against the three Feudatories' rebellion,Yunnan had been disturbed by the year-after-year wars,with its entire social economy severely damaged while a steady social economy was supposed to be the base of Qing's enduring its tight ruling and its enforcement of the southwestern frontier.Wasteland reclamation thus became a feasible and effective means and its implementation proper to local conditions was an important feature of Qing's policies concerning the wasteland reclamation in Yunnan.This thesis will present an overall discussion on how the wasteland reclamation affected Yunnan's social economy and frontier enforcement,and how it interacted with migrants through investigating its operation in west and northwest Yunnan.
