Status of Fish Resources and Protection Measures in the Lower Reaches of Yalong River

Two investigations concerning the status of fishery resource were conducted during April and May in 2007 and 2008,nine sampling sites were selected in lower reaches of Yalong River.The results showed that the fish community consisted of 75 species belonged to 7 orders,19 families.Moreover,the fish community composition and structure were dramatically changed caused by water environmental change,and the population of rare fishes reduced sharply. Compared with the historical data,the species number of fish decreased from 98 to 75. In addition, the analysis of main catches indicated that fish resources in the lower reaches of Yalong River showed the trend of younger age and smaller size. The spatial distribution of rare or protected fishes including Leptobotia elongate, Schizothorax chongi,Percocypris pingi and Sinogastromyzon szechuanensis were significantly different in the studied area.
