The Eastward Transmission of Western Learning and the Adherence to the Standard Position of Chinese Literature:How to Compile the History of Ancient Chinese Literature

The writing of the history of Chinese literature started at the beginning of the 20 th century or so,and the earliest writers of the literary history were scholars from outside of China,therefore,the early writing was featured by western perspectives and value characteristics. After the 1950 s,teaching syllabus has been made for the History of Ancient Chinese Literature and unified textbooks have been adopted. Although westernization is constantly rejected by the Chinese politicians,the major studies of ancient Chinese literature still echo with Western- centrism. The relatively independent existence and evolution of ancient Chinese literary tradition leads to the practical estrangement of Chinese literature from western literary concepts. It's the responsibility of researchers to interpret ancient Chinese literature in accordance with established modern principles and make an effort to recognize ancient Chinese literature as an existing fact,commenting faithfully on the tracks of the ancient Chinese literary writing and judging the validity of contemporary Western literary concepts for it. The researches and writing of the history of ancient Chinese literature should reflect the unique Chinese position,perspective,values and approaches,and on this basis embody the diversified and academic nature of Chinese literary history.
