Limb salvage treatment for bone tumors around the shoulders

Objective To investigate the limb salvage strategy for bone tumor resection around the shoulder.Methods Two patients underwent limb salvage operation for treatment of bone tumors around the shoulders.One patient had proximal humerus osteogenic sarcoma,and was treated with the tumor-bearing bone resection and reconstruction with turnover of the clavicle.Another one had fibrohistiocytoma of scapula,and was treated with tumor resection and slinging of acromion of humerus.Results Both cases were followed up for a short time.The pain of the shoulder disappeared.The articulatio capitis humeri reserved certain function when it did some passive activity.Conclusions According to the different locations of the bone tumors around shoulders,the degree of the malignant tumor and the patient's economic condition,different limb-salvage operations can be performed in order to reserve the function of the joint,the external form of the shoulder and to improve the quality of patient's life.
