Effect of Needle Rotation in Taixi(KI3) Acupoint on Functional MRI in MCI Patients

Abstract

Objective: To study the central mechanism of brain function effect with acupuncturing Taixi(KI3) point in MCI pathologic state.Methods: Twelve patients with MCI and twelve normal aging people were enrolled in this research and acupunctured at Taixi points.A block design including two blocks,resting state and rotating state.Scanned images were analyzed by using SPM2.Results: The resting state,group of patients with MCI compared with normal blood oxygen metabolism decreased in left superior frontal gyrus(BA6),left cingulate gyrus(BA24) and right superior temporal gyrus(BA38);The medial frontal gyrus(BA6),left postcentral gyrusBA40,left insula(BA13),right medial frontal gyrus(BA6),right superior temporal gyrus(BA22) and left cerebellar culmen were evoked by acupuncture in Taixi.Conclusion: Acupuncture in Taixi(KI3) could activate the target-based brain areas in MCI patients,and had integrity adjustment effect in related brain areas.
