Abstract

A kind of Acoustic Emission(AE)sensor called Orthotropic Piezoelectric Composite Materials(OPCM)was calibrated. The impulse responses of OPCM and a standard AE transducer were studied and compared in Rayleigh-wave sound fields.By using lead breaking as an acoustic source, the influence of piezoceramic phase on orthotropic characteristic and the response expression of OPCM were also given.Experimental results indicate that OPCM sensor is adequate for receiving surface waves and has remarkable directionality when the number of piezoceramics phases reach to 30.The exponential function of the sensor is effective to express the response rule,it will be helpful for plate structure health monitoring.
