Clinical research on preoperative application of finasteride in reducing transurethral resection syndrome

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of application of finasteride before transurethral resection of prostate(TURP) on reducing transurethral resection syndrome(TURS) of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.Methods A total of 180 cases of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who underwent TURP were randomly divided into two groups: the treatment group who took finasteride before surgery and the control group who did not take medicine.Blood loss and blood sodium levels were compared between the two groups during the operation,and the postoperative expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in prostate tissue was detected by immunohistochemical method.Results The blood loss and VEGF counts in prostate tissue in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P 0.05),but serum sodium was higher than that in the control group(P 0.05).Conclusion Preoperative application of finasteride can prevent and reduce the occurrence of TURS.
