The effect of Curcumin on human colon cancer cells SW480 in vitro

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Curcumin accelerating the apoptosis of human colon cancer cell line SW480 in vitro.Methods Human colon cancer cell line SW480 was incubated with different concentrations of Curcumin for 48 h,then cell survival rate was measured by MTT assay and cell morphology change was observed by Phase contrast microscope.Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry(Annexin V/PI staining) analysis and Hoechst 33258 staining.Results Curcumin could inhibit the growth of SW480 in varying degrees.The IC50 value of Curcumin in SW480 cells was 65 mg/mL.The number of apoptotic SW480 cells calculated with flow cytometry was accordant with the result with Hoechst 33258 staining.Conclusion Curcumin can promote apoptosis SW480 cells.It provides the evidence for Curcumin treating colon cancer.
