Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of femoral vein puncture in the clinical nursing of critically ill patients. Methods 40 critically ill patients underwent femoral vein catheterization from October 2007 to August 2011. Improved management measures helped rigorous nursing and maintenance of deep venous catheter. Results 40 cases of critically ill patients received femoral vein puncture, with puncture success rate of 100% (one time puncture success of 30 cases, repeated puncture success of 10 cases). The longest catheter time of 30 days, the shortest 7 days. 2 cases had red dot at the puncture, without complications such as infection, phlebitis, or air embolism. Conclusion Nursing intervention can effectively extend the femoral vein catheter time, and reduce the occurrence of complications.
