A Brief Account of Wu Yue Culture

Wu Yue Culture is a regional culture of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River,its ceuter being Tai Lake and QianTang River.During the period of 7000 years,great charges took place in the nationalism of the Wu Yue Culture.Before Chu defeated Yue,it was mainly Yi Yue Culture,after Qin conquered Yue,it changed into Han Culture.The national character varies,so the early cultures and the later ones should not be mixed up.The versions in the book 《Han History·A Survey of the Geography》 is unreliable.However,the broad Wu Yue Culture during the 7000 years still has its general features,which are:gentle,tender and elegant.From Han to Ming and Qing Dynasty,Wu Yue brought up a lot of remarkable personages in science,technology and arts,but no military heroes and political magnates.“A Dream of Red Mansion”is its culture sample.
